About Will

Will is a musician based in South Miami, Florida. With a Doctoral Degree in Jazz and Studio Music from the University of Miami, he plays professionally on trombone and electric bass. He is also a lecturer in the jazz department at UM and a music theory teacher for the Community Arts Partnership in Coral Gables, Florida.

Will is an accomplished trombonist. As a freelance musician in Los Angeles, he led his own jazz quintet and played in the jazz groups of saxophonist Michael Mull and tuba player Stefan Kac. He also played with the Balkan funk band Orkestar Meze. In Miami, he played on a Grammy-nominated album by the John Daversa Big Band and for a composition premiere with Michael Tilson Thomas and the New World Symphony. He leads a sextet to perform his own jazz compositions.

Will began playing electric bass in garage bands in middle school. He played jazz, funk, and rock music. Though he studied trombone in college, he never lost his love for the bass. As a master’s student at CalArts in Los Angeles, Will led an indie rock trio called Jupiter Jumps. After the pandemic cancelled all music performances, Will was left with time to reflect on his working life. The bass was the source of many of his most joyful musical experiences. It was obvious. Will must revive his bass playing!
